St. Dominic, originally Dominic de Guzman, was a Spanish saint born in Caleruega in 1170. He was a priest of the diocese of Osma. In 1214, Saint Dominic was troubled by the Albigensian Heresy and was searching for a way to combat it. Our blessed mother appeared to St. Dominic and gave him the rosary.The Order of Preachers, also known as the Dominicans, was founded in 1216 by St. Dominic de Guzman to preach the gospel. Dominicans, who live in community, dedicate themselves to study, prayers, and preaching for the salvation of souls and for their own salvation. The Dominicans have helped Catholics live a good Christian life. The motto of the Dominicans is truth (Veritas). The Dominicans are committed to tireless study of the truth wherever it is to be found.
